Description
Vineyard
The organically farmed, dry grown Chestnut Hill Vineyard is located on the south-eastern border of the Yarra Valley, in the Port Phillip Zone. The five rows of Nebbiolo were grafted in 2001, onto shiraz planted in 1985. The vineyard sits at 260m above sea level, north-east facing, on heavy grey clay loam. 2019 was a warmer year, with cool nights and low crops. We picked about 0.8kg per vine of vibrant, concentrated fruit.
Winemaker's Note
Made with mainly destemmed fruit, and a handful of whole bunches. 22 months in seasoned hogsheads. Gentle winemaking with no additions apart from a little sulphur at bottling. The wine has a long life ahead of it. Reminiscent of old-world style.
